Get ready for a frightfully fun two-days of bubbling reactions, colour-changing potions, ghostly gases, stretchy slime and creepy crystals at IIL spooktacular STEAM science lab! <\/strong><\/p>\n

Young scientists aged 8-13 will step into the STEAM laboratory for a hands-on Halloween adventure packed with chemistry, experiments and discovery.<\/strong> Create incredible colour-changing reactions using red cabbage indicator, make a ghost grow through a chemical reaction, investigate chemo-ween reactions, create monster slime, grow crystal spider webs and discover how everyday materials can produce electricity!<\/p>\n

The challenges continue with engineering, glowing LED Halloween circuits and plenty of opportunities to experiment, test, investigate and create.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As each experiment will be about 30 min – 1 hour, here is the outline: <\/strong><\/p>\n

1. Growing ghost – CO\u2082 reaction<\/strong>
\nVinegar and bicarbonate of soda produce carbon dioxide, which inflates a ghost balloon. Campers explore acid-base reactions, gas production and chemical change.<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Colour-changing witch’s potions <\/strong>
\nRed cabbage indicator is mixed with substances such as lemon juice, vinegar, bicarbonate solution and diluted soap solution. Children investigate acids, alkalis, indicators and pH through dramatic colour changes.<\/span><\/p>\n

3. Bubbling potion laboratory<\/strong>
\nCampers investigate different safe combinations such as citric acid\/lemon juice, vinegar and bicarbonate, comparing bubbling and gas production. Focus: reactants, products and evidence of chemical reactions.<\/span><\/p>\n

4. Monster slime chemistry<\/strong>
\nParticipants create slime and investigate how changing the formulation affects stretch, flow and elasticity. Introduces polymers and cross-linking.<\/span><\/p>\n

5. Crystal spider webs<\/strong>
\nHalloween spider-web shapes are placed into a suitable crystal-growing solution to investigate solutions, saturation and crystallisation.<\/span><\/p>\n

6. Halloween electrochemistry : lemon & potato batteries<\/strong>
\nChildren use copper and zinc electrodes with lemons or potatoes to create simple electrochemical cells, measure voltage and investigate how chemical energy can produce electrical energy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Put on your safety goggles and get ready to mix, react, build and discover!
\nAt the STEAM Lab, science gets downright Spooktacular !<\/p>\n

1:45pm-1:55pm: welcome\/ registration at IIL<\/p>\n

2:00pm-3:30pm: 1st part of afternoon camps<\/p>\n

3:30pm-4:00pm: snack and break. An afternoon snack is provided by IIL Camps to all children prior to playtime<\/p>\n

4:00pm-5:00pm: 2nd and final part of afternoon camps<\/p>\n

5:00pm: end of camps.\u00a0Parents are kindly asked to pick up their children at the IIL entrance gate, at 5:00pm<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Late pick-up option possible, up to 6:00pm max : +30chf for the 2 days.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Please note that from now on, any delay in collecting your children will result in a charge of CHF 10 per child for every quarter of an hour or part thereof. Thank you for your understanding.<\/em><\/p>\n

Children attending afternoon camps only will NOT be able to have lunch on site beforehand.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you would like your child to stay with us for the full day, you may enroll them in a morning camp (AM). Only in this case will they be able to have lunch on site (12:30pm-2:00pm). When registering for the morning camp, you will indeed be able to choose between signing them up for the canteen (additional fee), providing a packed lunch every day for them to eat at IIL (supervision and activities included, no additional fee), or picking them up at 12:30pm and bringing them back by 1:45pm (no additional fee).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
