And… Action!
Get ready to travel back in time to the era of silent cinema!
For one week, young filmmakers aged 9 to 13 will dive into the funny, poetic, and expressive world of Charlie Chaplin and slapstick silent films, where everything is told through gestures, glances, and creativity.
Over 5 mornings, participants will learn to act, mime, and film their own wordless comic scenes! From discovering silent cinema to creating a short comedy film, each day will bring a new burst of imagination: character creation, gag writing, filming, and a final screening.
Below is the schedule of the week:
Day 1 – Discovering Silent and Slapstick Cinema
Dive into the magical world of Chaplin and the codes of silent film: watch classic clips (Modern Times, The Kid…), play mime games, exaggerate emotions, and try your first wordless comic improvisations.
Day 2 – Creating Characters and the Storyline
Let your imagination run wild! Each child takes on several roles and works on unique character traits. Then, characters and funny situations are drawn at random to build an exciting, twist-filled script together. Sets and props are chosen to match.
Day 3 – Quiet on Set! (Team 1)
Action time! The young actors move into production: setting up the shoot, assigning roles (actors, camera operator, film director…), rehearsing, filming, and crafting visual gags and comic twists. Team 1 films their scenes and gets a behind-the-scenes look at movie-making. Screening of the day’s footage follows.
Day 4 – Lights, Camera, Action! (Team 2)
Now it’s Team 2’s turn to film their part of the project. Viewing of the raw footage and discussion about comic effects and acting techniques.
Day 5 – From Silent to Talking Cinema & Final Screening
Children explore the birth of talking pictures through theater and dialogue games, then… it’s time for the final screening of their films! The week ends with laughter, applause, and pride as everyone celebrates their creative work.
Blending body expression, humor, mime, and teamwork, this camp lets kids experience all the magic of the 7th art in the time of Charlot!
This camp is led by Léo Galtier, a professional cameraman and audiovisual technician, passionate about teaching film and leading video workshops.
