Ready for a four-day STEAM camp designed for curious minds aged 7 to 11. This camp is for young creators eager to dive into the fascinating worlds of electronics, magnetism, forces, and mechanical movements. Over the course of the camp, students will explore various exciting projects while developing problem-solving skills, creativity, and a deeper understanding of engineering principles. Here’s a sneak peek into the activities:
- Electronic Board Game Creation
Children will be introduced to the basics of electronics. They will learn about wiring, circuits, and components like switches, connectors, and buzzers. Using these skills, they’ll create their very own, personally designed and laser engraved, electronic board game- similar to the classic “Operation,” where players must carefully remove pieces without setting off a buzzer. They will enjoy taking home their creation to share with family and friends.
- Marble Run Engineering
Collaborating in small teams, students will put their structural engineering skills to the test by designing and building elaborate marble runs. Using materials like cardboard, and paper tubes, they’ll experiment with gravity, angles, and momentum to create intricate paths for their marbles; a fantastic way for young engineers to see the principles of force and motion in action.
- Catapult Challenges
Get ready to launch into fun to explore energy transfer and mechanical forces while fostering friendly competition. Using simple materials, students will construct their own miniature catapults. Who will achieve the greatest distance?
- Magnet Maze and Cardboard Scissor Mechanism
To teach properties of magnetism and encourage creative problem-solving, children will create magnet mazes, designing paths and using magnets to navigate a piece through the course. Next, students will explore the fascinating world of mechanical toys by building their own cardboard scissor mechanism using cams and levers. This project sparks creativity while helping students understand the basics of mechanical engineering.
