And… Action!
Get ready to travel back in time to the era of silent cinema!
For one week, young filmmakers aged 8 to 13 will dive into the funny, poetic, and expressive world of Charlie Chaplin and slapstick silent films, where everything is told through gestures, glances, and creativity.
Over 4 mornings, participants will learn to act, mime, and film their own wordless comic scenes! From discovering silent cinema to creating a short comedy film, each day will bring a new burst of imagination: character creation, gag writing, filming, and a final screening.
Below is the schedule of the week:
Day 1 – Discovering silent and slapstick cinema
A dive into the magical world of Chaplin and the codes of silent film: iconic clips watching (Modern Times, The Kid…), mime games, exaggerated emotions, first wordless comedic improvisations, and the creation of characters and storyline. Then it’s time for imagination: children will draw random characters and funny situations to build a story full of twists together. Each child will be able to play several roles, exploring different personalities and character traits along the way.
Day 2 – Quiet on set! (Teamwork begins!)
The young actors spring into action with the first team! Setting up the shoot, assigning roles (actors, camera operator, director…), rehearsing, filming, and exploring comedic endings and visual gags: the first team creates its scenes and discovers the behind-the-scenes of a film set. Viewing of the raw footage and sharing feedback on comic effects and acting performance.
Day 3 – Lights, camera, action! (Day 2 of filming)
Now it’s Team 2’s turn to film their part of the project. Viewing of the raw footage and sharing feedback on comic effects and acting performance.
Day 4 – From silent to talking cinema & final screening
Children explore the birth of talking pictures through theater and dialogue games, then… it’s time for the final screening of their films! The week ends with laughter, applause, and pride as everyone celebrates their creative work.
Blending body expression, humor, mime, and teamwork, this camp lets kids experience all the magic of the 7th art in the time of Charlot!
This camp is led by Léo Galtier, a professional cameraman and audiovisual technician, passionate about teaching film and leading video workshops. Having been a huge hit in February, this camp is making a big comeback this summer!
